Psychologically Safe
Performance Leadership

Become the trusted leader of a consistently high performing team. Wherever they are.

Do any of these sound familiar to you?

  • When I focus on the people side of leadership I feel like I’m compromising performance, but focusing on performance feels like it can negatively impact people - how am I supposed to do both?

  • My team are great and usually get good results but when they don’t, giving feedback so they can improve performance feels so awkward that I’d almost rather not do it.

  • Since we moved to hybrid working I’ve struggled with how I can make sure the team are on track and doing ok without micro managing them.

  • Staying on top of my workload has become near impossible recently - something’s got to give and I don’t want it to be me.

  • I feel like I’m juggling a dozen balls and hoping none of them fall - how am I supposed to manage so many expectations when everything is constantly changing around us?

It’s not just you. These ‘hangovers’ from traditional leadership make leading in todays world unnecessarily hard. There is a simpler, more effective way to lead…

Let’s be honest.

Being a leader has never been a breeze, but it’s become harder over the past few years. That’s unlikely to change, because new generations entering the workforce have different expectations of work and life. Expectations you’ll need to work with.

Luckily knowing how to attract great people, engage and align a team who can play well together and rise confidently to challenges isn’t rocket science. Far from it. It’s about taking simple steps consistently - and in the right order - while being deliberate about your own thinking and actions as a leader.

So why is it hard? Because humans are complex, trading environments are tricky and if you’re ‘playing big’ through your work, you’re going to be faced with challenges that make staying disciplined and deliberate difficult.

Coaching doesn’t just help you take the right steps in the right sequence. It gives you space to learn, test, reflect and challenge yourself without judgement.

What we cover…

The Psychologically Safe Performance Model

Psychological safety and trust act as both foundation and weight bearing supports to performance. Learn how their interrelationship helps you unlock consistent performance and a strong team culture. Understand your role as a leader in facilitating that dynamic and how to navigate each of the internal connecting parts of the model to achieve it.

The Part of ‘Self’

The mindset of psychological safety, trust and performance starts with you as a leader. The concept of psychological safety is at the heart of it all, because people need to feel safe and secure before they can direct their energy and attention to other higher order tasks or practices. Understand what psychological safety means for you and how to recognise it in others and how to promote it in others at work.

The Part of ‘Leader’

The job of leadership has changed - command and control is out, coaching and facilitating performance is in. So what skills are still useful? What can you safely leave behind and what can you pick up to genuinely partner your team and your stakeholders for performance? Learn about partnering for performance while retooling your leadership skills for a hybrid and constantly evolving world.

The Part of ‘Team’

Your team’s culture influences the mood, pace and productivity of it’s members, because humans are social beings whose survival relies on tribal inclusion. The team is a key influence in developing our sense of self, our sense of belonging and in learning and developing into higher levels of competence and confidence. Learn how to ensure your team are growing together, not apart, while elevating their performance every step of the way.

The Part of ‘System’

The system is the 'how' of the business. The processes and practices that govern how the business is managed. They're inanimate but they can unintentionally restrict your team members ability to work smoothly together. It can mean your team are risk averse, slower to learn, afraid to fail, unmotivated to collaborate, jealous of each other and more. Learn how to adapt, or moderate the systems that guide the work you and your team are doing so success is as frictionless as possible.

How it works.

We start by setting the context, and checking the current health of your team. That gives us an understanding of what’s already strong and working, and where there is tension or fragility.

Next we adapt the plan so we can start where your focus is most needed as a leader.

Then we roll out the plan through online learning, real time application and regular coaching and mentoring calls. Together, we set goals and track progress throughout the program.

All of your materials, including your notes and goals progress are kept in your online coaching account for you to access during the program and to refer to into the future.

These topics aren’t covered one after another - instead they are learned in layers that deepen over time. We do this to ensure you’re learning only what you need, when you need it, and to avoid overwhelm while you’re in learning and application mode.

  • I don't just teach this stuff; I do it. I worked in corporate leadership roles for 18 years at Hasbro, The Walt Disney Company and Universal Pictures. I know what it feels like to lead teams, manage profit and loss, and front up to stakeholders about performance. I do this work, because the first time I applied thinking like this, we reduced our work hours, improved work quality and 3x our profit.

  • I've helped hundreds of leaders to close gaps in performance & culture. Since 2011 I've helped leaders internationally, from commercial and govt backgrounds, to lift team performance, create alignment among disparate groups with competing agendas - and actually have fun doing it. You can see some of the more recognisable companies I've worked with below...

  • I know what takes teams from 'good' to 'great'. It's vulnerability based trust, also referred to as  psychological safety - and it's a critical condition for optimal performance. If your workplace requires people to create, strategise, solve, connect with others, deliver through people - then being attuned to the balance of psychological stress and psychological safety is essential.

  • I keep it real, focused and BS free. Time is valuable so I want to share what I know works. Quickly. But I haven't skimped - this tracker isn't a one dimensional force-fed training about hardline performance. I've designed it to help you to construct strong performance outcomes while creating psychological safety in your team. Because when you try to separate those two, work becomes unnecessarily hard. It's the difference between swimming against the current rather than with it.
